Exchange Mailbox Add-on: Overview

The BackupAssist Exchange Mailbox Add-on is primarily used to achieve brick-level backups of your Microsoft Exchange Server. This allows for simple and rapid restoration of your individual or group emails, calendar, tasks, notes, contacts or entire mailboxes.

The SQL Add-on: Brief Overview

The SQL Add-on enables BackupAssist to back up Microsoft SQL Servers, and has the following benefits:

• Live, online backups of your SQL Server databases
• Include the SQL backups in your overall backup job (together with your files, system state, and/or Exchange server).
• SQL Server backups are in the standard SQL Server Backup Format - meaning that you will be able to perform a restoration on any SQL Server, without any additional software.
• You may also restore individual databases to different SQL Servers as well.

The Problem With Open/Locked/In-use Files

Active applications will often have files that are continuously in-use or open. When files are in such a locked state, a real problem can be presented when you attempt to perform a backup of these files, as they cannot be accessed by backup applications. As a consequence, these files will not be copied to the required backup media (tape, hard-disk, DVD/CD, etc), leaving your business critical data unprotected.
