On September 13th Microsoft released the “Developer Preview build (Build 8102)” of it's new OS. This Version has has new "goodies" like:

• Touch Interface
• A new Filesystem (incompatible with NTFS, FAT)
• Support for ARM Processors, found in many tablets
• Recovery and Reset Tools

Ever hear of the Rocket Chemical Company, Software Development Laboratories, or Binney & Smith? Probably, but not by these names. Each of these companies changed their name to reflect the success of their flagship product: WD-40, Oracle software, and Crayola crayons for children.

Now it is time for ALWIL Software. With over 100 million registered users of its avast! antivirus applications, the company is changing its name to AVAST Software as of June 1, 2010.

“In a web-based user survey, only a fraction could identify the name of our company even though this same group was pleased with the product,” said CEO Vince Steckler. “With 68 percent of new users coming via a friend’s recommendation, it is time to make the company name more visible.”

Όσοι έχουν εγκατεστημένο ένα από τα παραπάνω σε άλλη γλώσσα μπορούν από τις ρυθμίσεις να προσθέσουν και να ορίσουν την ελληνική γλώσσα.

Τέλος εποχής για τα Windows 2000, Windows XP Service Pack 2 και Windows Vista RTM.

Η Microsoft μας υπενθυμίζει πως λήγει η υποστήριξη για τα Windows 2000, Windows XP SP2 και Windows Vista RTM.

Με ανακοίνωση σε Blog της, η Microsoft ανακοινώνει το τέλος της υποστήριξης για τα εξής προϊόντα:

• 13 Ιουλίου 2010 - Windows 2000 λήξη του Extended Support

• 13 Ιουλίου 2010 - Windows XP Service Pack 2 – λήξη του Support

• 13 Ιουλίου 2010 - Windows Vista RTM – λήξη του Support

• 13 Ιουλίου 2011 - Windows Vista Service Pack 1 – λήξη του Support

Η Microsoft συνιστά την αναβάθμιση των λειτουργικών σε ανώτερο Service Pack (αν διατίθεται) η σε Windows Vista η Windows 7.
